Description
California c.1930 California Native Americans built boats out of tule bulrushes by tying the bundles of tules together to form the boat. The shape varied with different tribes, but the tule boat was usually pointed at both ends. The Yokuts often left a fishing hole in the center of the boat, and the boat was kept afloat by the air captured in the tule tubes.
