Washington, D.C. May 24, 1946Five soldiers stranded in Savannah, Georgia, arrive at Washington's National Airport after hitchhiking a ride on General Eisenhower's plane. Eisenhower was called back to Washington by the railroad strike crisis when President Truman declared the government would operate the railroads and he would use the Army as strikebreakers.
