Description
Washington, D.C. November 30, 1929Scientist and inventor A. H. Bumstead presents a sun compass to Commander Richard Byrd for his flight over the North Pole. Whereas normal magnetic compasses are helpless at the poles, this simple device showed the explorer the way on both of his flights over the North and South Poles.
