Description
California c. 1930The padres taught the Native Americans to make the adobe bricks used in the building of the missions. The door and window frames were made by the carpenters. Round wooden pegs held the frames together. The bricks were laid around the projecting top and bottom pieces of the frames to hold them securely in the wall. The Indians were taught to set each brick carefully in order to keep the layers of brick level and to form straight walls.
